Top 4 card games to play with kids

Around our house we love playing cards! Obviously, card games look a lot different with kids then they did back before we started our family. We just had to learn to adapt. I did some digging a while back and found some card games to try out that the entire family can play. And they did not disappoint. I had never heard of 3 of these games, and the fourth one is an oldie but a goodie! Rarely a day goes by that we don’t play one of these four games. My kids love them and Brian and I actually enjoy them, too! Click on the pictures of the games to purchase them from Amazon.

Naturally, we will start with my favorite!

LONG COW

This is my absolute favorite game to play with the kids. It’s not your traditional card game, but it’s a lot of fun. Our 6 year old can play by himself, but our 4 year old still likes to be on one of our teams. In this card game you try to “build” cows and grow your herd. The longer your cows and the bigger your herd, the more points you score at the end. But, watch out! There may be some unforeseen circumstances headed your way.

RAT A TAT CAT

This game is a lot of fun, too! Its a number strategy game where you have to remember your cards, while trying to end with the lowest score. Try to get rid of your high cards, the rats, and hang on to the low cards, the cats. But, there are a few twists involved so don’t get too comfortable. Both our 6 and 4 year olds are able to play it by themselves and we have a great time playing it. It has really helped the kids comprehend the “more and less than” principal for numbers. Throwing a little education in there doesn’t hurt this mama’s feelings one bit.

SLEEPING QUEENS

This is another great one! It did not take long at all for the kids to grasp the concept of this game. They can actually play it without adult supervision. This one is fun for the whole family though, so when they get this game out you’re going to want to join in the fun! You have to wake the queens from their slumber, but you can only do so by playing a king. There are twists and turns along this game and what you think you have can be taken in the blink of an eye! You’ve got queens, kings, knights, dragons, magic wands, sleeping potions, and jesters in this one. What’s not to love? End up with the most points and you win the game!

OLD MAID

Now, I know you’ve all played this game as a child. But, have you thought about pulling her back out and introducing her to your kiddos? This game is hilarious to play with small children. They can not keep a secret and it’s so much fun to watch them try! You remember the point right? Don’t end up with the “Old Maid” card and you win! Both kids can play this game alone and without adult supervision!

That’s just a round up of our top four card games that we enjoy with our kiddos. If you have any other suggestions, drop them down in the comments section and I’ll be sure to check them out. I always love finding fun new games to play as a family!
