Contentment starts in the heart.
As we try to get going on our road to contentment, we have to find a starting point. Although many could argue where to start, after lots of prayer and study, I realize I need to start with my heart. Most problems are really deep down, a problem of the heart.
That’s pretty clear. “keep thy heart with all diligence.” Guard your heart! This is an important matter! All of our issues start in our heart. It sounds like the condition of our heart is very serious!
So how do we guard our heart?
- We Pray regularly. “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalms 139:23-24 KJV
- We get in the Word daily. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 KJV
- We ask for God’s help. “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”Psalms 51:10 KJV
He will search you and show you what needs to be changed. Pray for a clean heart and a renewed spirit. But, it doesn’t stop there. When God starts showing you what needs to be changed, don’t ignore it. It may not be comfortable. It may not be what you were expecting. It may come as a complete shock. But, I promise, in the end, it’s going to be worth it.
Do you need to change some things in order to guard your heart? The places you go… the things you see… the shows you watch… the people you’re around… the music you hear… the way you talk…
Let’s spend the next few days praying for God’s guidance and spending time in God’s word. I think he’ll be able to get our hearts in order.
